Despite the fact that most people dream of living in a single-family home, the number of people living in apartments is steadily increasing. This is primarily due to the real estate market, which is currently growing rapidly. Unfortunately, people\’s economic situation is worsening, forcing them to settle for options that are usually worse than desired. But why do people choose to live in their parents\’ homes instead of apartments when they have a choice? There are several reasons.
The first is of course proximity to neighbors. Many apartments, especially older ones, do not have very good airtightness between units, either vertically or horizontally. As a result, one can hear the murmurings of one\’s neighbors. Moreover, the reverse is also true: what you are doing at home can be heard by those around you. The majority of us simply want privacy, but unfortunately this is often not possible in flats. There are exceptions, of course, but they come at a price.
Then there is the fact that you can basically hear everything from outside. For example, if there is a playground under the window, this may not be very pleasant. One must also remember the fact that windows are only on one or, at most, two sides. Thus, if the windows face south or southwest, the sunlight will pour in all summer afternoons and there will be no escape. However, if they face north, they will return home in the dark in the winter.
Parking space is another problem that few people realize. Despite the fact that new parking lots are being built all the time, parking spaces are hard to come by. Thus, for example, if a family has two cars, they can expect to have basically no place to park. Not to mention being exposed to the effects of fireworks on New Year\’s Day, and firecrackers can seriously damage a car. So it is no wonder that many people prefer their parents\’ homes if they have the choice.
